The Policy Officer Recruitment Programme (PORP) is a prestigious three year development program that attracts and trains Canada's next generation of policy leaders. Participants rotate through diverse policy areas, receive mentorship, and gain first hand experience contributing to decisions that shape Canada's defence and international engagement.

Policy Officer Recruitment Programme (PORP) will be accepting applications from October 31st to November 10th, 2025, for an anticipated employment start date in September 2026. Applications will be accepted via: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/jobs/opportunities/government.html 
 


Who should attend:
This session is ideal for graduate students and recent alumni who want to make an impact through public policy, defence strategy, or international affairs.
Students from the following areas are especially encouraged to attend:


Faculty of Arts

  • Political Studies
  • Economics
  • History
  • Sociology and Criminology
  • Psychology
  • Philosophy

Faculty of Graduate Studies

  • Master of Public Administration 
  • Master of Arts in Political Studies or Economics

Faculty of Law (Robson Hall)

  • Students with an interest in legal frameworks, national security law, or international law


Eligibility: Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents to apply for the Policy Officer Recruitment Programme.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the program and its structure;
  • Hear directly from PORP representatives, Brenda Abokhai and Lydia Schriemer, about their experiences and insights; and
  • Ask questions about the application process, eligibility, and tips for success.
