About UM Behind the Hire
UM Behind the Hire is a bi-weekly lunchtime info session series designed to help students explore career pathways, meet employers actively hiring, and gain insight into workplace culture and expectations. Each session includes a presentation followed by Q&A and discussion.
Featured Organization: Faculty of Kinesiology & Recreation Management
The Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management (FKRM) at the University of Manitoba is a dynamic hub for sport, recreation, and wellness on campus. Through its facilities and programs, FKRM fosters inclusive, active living and supports the health and well-being of the university community. The faculty hires students and staff for a wide range of roles, from customer service and fitness instruction to lifeguarding, event support, and facility operations. With a strong commitment to leadership, teamwork, and community engagement, FKRM offers valuable hands-on experience in a vibrant, people-focused environment.
What You'll Learn
Join representatives from the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management (FKRM) for an inside look at on campus job opportunities in sport, recreation, and wellness. You will learn about current student roles available with Recreation Services such as Intramural Officials, Timekeepers, and Fitness Attendants, and how these flexible positions support active living at the university.
We will guide you through the application process, typical qualifications, and where to find job postings. We will also explain how to access opportunities in other areas like Mini U by providing contact information and helpful referrals.
The session will highlight how students can make the most of Recreation Services to support their own health and well-being during the academic year.
Whether you are passionate about fitness, sport, or simply looking for a student job that builds leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, this session will help you get started. We will finish with time for questions, so feel free to come curious.
